July-Aug. 24 | The Director’s Class
9am-3:30pm @ Saratoga Independent School [High School]
This intensive summer course is designed for the serious filmmaker who wants to produce a portfolio piece they can use for college or other professional opportunities. Students go through the film production process from idea to finished movie.
Jul. 8-Aug. 5 students will meet with their instructor for 15-20 minutes, once a week online to develop, write, and plan an original short-film. During this time students will write an original screenplay, create a shot-list, secure a location, and cast actors for their projects.
Aug. 12-14 (including Sunday) class will meet in person to complete pre-production. These three days will be devoted to production prep which includes collecting or building props, doing camera tests, meeting with cinematographers to finalize storyboards and shot-lists. There are always adjustments and loose ends to tie up during this time.
Aug. 15-21 class will meet on location for the production of each student’s individual production. Each student will receive one full day devoted to completing production on their film using professional equipment, trained actors, and a location of their choice. Additionally, they will have a college film student as their cinematographer and their classmates to make up their film crew.
Aug. 22-24 class meets in person for post-production where students complete the digital edit of their films. During this phase, students complete the assembly of their footage, add in music, titles, and effects.
Enrollment is limited to 6 students to enable each student to receive the necessary individual attention they need to develop and produce a high quality film. The intention of this class is to simulate a professional filmmaking experience and support young filmmakers with the tools and knowledge to produce movies at a competitive level.
