Counselor-in-Training Camps in Saratoga County
Think your kids might want to be a camp counselor someday? Prepare for the future by signing them up for a local counselor-in-training program!
LEAD (Leadership Education and Development) is a two-week program offered to all campers who have completed 10th grade. LEAD provides them with an opportunity to learn valuable leadership skills, group management, lesson planning, and confidence speaking and sharing in front of others. Campers who successfully complete LEAD have the opportunity to apply for CILT (Camper in Leadership Training). CILTs learn how to plan Bible studies, lead activities, and manage a cabin group — and it ends with a “live-in” experience where they are essentially in charge of a cabin (with counselor supervision) for part of a week.
Southern Saratoga YMCA
COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING (CIT) PROGRAM – Grades 9 & 10 – The CIT program offers teens the opportunity to develop leadership and program skills with the potential to lead to a counselor position in the future. The focus is on small group dynamics, communication skills, teamwork, and values clarification. CITs help to organize games and activities with the campers and assist the counselors with daily responsibilities.
Children ages 12-15 can apply to be a CIT at any site location. And they have MANY locations! Albany, Clifton Park, Cohoes, East Greenbush, Guilderland, Niskayuna, Rotterdam, Schoharie, Scotia, and Troy.
